Visions of Sugarplums: A Collection of Christmas Cookery is a delightful ebook published by Lizzie of A Dusty Frame, filled with those exceptional recipes of holidays past. You'll find inspirational quotes, a section on making homemade ornaments from kitchen ingredients, suggested family traditions, snow day ideas, and a list of favorite Christmas books. And, of course, lots of love.

I must admit, I guess I am behind! I have never read or downloaded an e-book! I see lots of advertisements for them, but I always hated to download them, or use all that printer ink to print them out. But, this was a really neat book! The e-book contains 64 pages with so many interesting recipes and traditions from old family recipes to some really odd traditions and recipes from many different countries. The kids and I are doing a Christmas Around the World project this month, and we are using several of these ideas as we get to know how other countries celebrate Christmas. By far our favorites were the recipes which were also activities - like a neat pudding recipe from Sweden called Julgrot where whoever finds a hidden almond gets to pass out the Christmas gifts! Or the Epiphany Cake where objects are hidden throughout the cake. There are also some really interesting ornament recipes to try AND gourmet dog biscuits -the girls are already planning to make these for our dog Abby and the Grand-dogs.

It is kind of neat to have the recipes on my computer, but I don't think this changed my perception of e-books. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to hold that bound book in my hand! It is neat to know that this kind of thing is out there that you can instantly access. So, when you are deep in the middle of Christmas cooking and you need a handy holiday recipe you can download it quickly and easily. This book has so much insight into the recipes - tips and history that you just can't get anywhere else AND it gives so many ways to add creativity to your holiday!

This book compliments our lessons this month on Christmas in other cultures so well. Here's a link to some great Christmas Around the World lesson ideas:
